The Office for Graduate Diversity’s Inclusive Excellence Hub has launched a collaborative partnership with FGLI Grads Group, a student organization that focuses on building connections, networking, and thriving opportunities that support first-generation and/or low-income graduate students at UC Berkeley. The Inclusive Excellence Hub is the home base for the FGLI Grads Group gatherings and events. Located at 2515 Channing Way, the Hub also provides students with free printing, snacks, study spaces, and programming.

Wilson Torres (He/Him)

Wilson is a first-generation graduate student with a passion for blending technology, design, and accessibility to create innovative solutions. With a background in mechatronics and wearable technology, Wilson has focused on designing assistive devices that empower users and enhance their everyday lives. 

As someone who’s worked extensively with mobile technology and healthcare solutions, Wilson is committed to making technology more accessible, especially for underrepresented communities, including older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Being the first in their family to pursue higher education, Wilson takes pride in breaking new ground and giving back through teaching and mentorship. They’re excited about opportunities where they can bring their unique perspective to research and beyond.

Duha Syar (She/Her)

Duha is a second year PhD student in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department. Originally from Pakistan, she has lived most of her life in New York City. She is excited to be a part of FGLI in order to bridge together the community of international and first-gen low-income students across Berkeley.
