About the Graduate Division

The UC Berkeley Graduate Division is the central resource and advocate for graduate education, ensuring fair policies across the university’s 14 schools and colleges, and over 200 programs. The Graduate Division oversees graduate admissions, fellowships, grants, academic employment, preparation for teaching, mentoring activities, professional development, academic progress and degree milestones.

We support Berkeley’s graduate students from application to graduation, offering services like new student onboarding, financial support, professional development, community-building, and many other resources.

As administrators of the Academic Senate’s Graduate Council, we collaborate with faculty, staff, and deans to maintain Berkeley’s high academic standards.

A Note from Our Dean

I often say that Berkeley is an “idea” – the idea that the people could build an academically excellent higher education institution open to all, regardless of background, that is dedicated to serving the public good through its teaching, research, and service. That idea of Berkeley is one, I believe, it is worth working towards.

The diverse backgrounds and passions of our faculty and students support the excellence that makes Berkeley second to none in terms of its breadth, depth, and reach. We are unmatched in terms of the impact our scholarship, research, and public service has on California, the United States, and the world.
