About PREP@UC Berkeley
The objective of UC Berkeley Post-Baccalaureate Research Program (PREP@UC Berkeley) is to provide hands-on lab research training opportunities to recent B.Sc. graduates with limited research experience. The goal of the program is to prepare scholars for successful Graduate School application within a year.
Appointments in PREP@UC Berkeley consist of research in a dedicated mentor’s lab and professional development and mentoring activities with the goal of applying to Graduate School.
Program Structure
Scholars will receive:
- Paid position in UCB mentor laboratory
- $20.71 per hour, plus benefits for the duration of the program
- Program support for graduate school applications
- Mentoring
- Funds to travel to national/scientific conference (contingent on availability)
- Professional development workshops
Eligibility
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Graduated or in the process of graduating with a baccalaureate degree in a biomedically-relevant science or engineering discipline, from an accredited U.S. college or university, no more than 36 months prior to applying to PREP, and are not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
- Will apply to a Ph.D. program in a biomedically relevant science in the fall of their first year in PREP.

Program Duration: one year, June 2026 – January 2027 (possibility of extension through May 2025 contingent on NIH NCE)
