D-Lab Workshop Empowers Students to Advance Social Justice in Data Science

Set to begin with its second iteration this June, the 8-week cohort-based online program provides a scaffolded, project-based learning environment — designed within a social justice framework — giving current Berkeley graduate students the ability to apply data science skills and tools in their individual fields of study whether they’re coming from public health, education, law, public policy or any discipline across campus.

Reconnecting Our Community 

Initially developed as a joint collaboration between the Graduate Division and the Othering and Belonging Institute’s (OBI) for the Biological Sciences Division of L&S has now become a yearly tradition that has also been facilitated for the Neuroscience Department. By centering personal narrative sharing and facilitated dialogue over a shared meal, these events are designed to break down structural divides to foster psychological proximity, empathy, and a strong sense of departmental belonging.
