Walking around campus, I see students settling into the 2018 – 19 academic year. This can mean very different things for different graduate students — taking classes, teaching classes, planning experiments or writing research proposals and papers. But regardless of your academic program, I urge you to take some time to explore the broader Berkeley campus. Visit different parts of the campus, venture into a few intriguing buildings, and bookmark the campus events webpage for an ever-changing menu of movies, concerts, lectures, sporting events and exhibits. This is the time of year to be applying for fellowships — which we are featuring in this month’s GradNews. I look forward to seeing some of you at the upcoming NSF fellowship application workshop. We also highlight information on our Career Center and upcoming career fairs — it’s never too early to be exploring career options. Finally, if you feel that you can’t possibly fit these activities into your schedule, our time management tips below may help! Fiat Lux! Fiona M. Doyle Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate Division
