Summer is here and, with it, a different pace and range of opportunities. This issue of GradNews gives pointers for enhancing your summer fun, preparing for the fall, and developing your skills. I encourage you to take some time to enjoy seasonal festivals and the great outdoors; consider housing options and health services that might benefit you; add a new core competency to your professional skills; explore career options; make plans to apply for extramural funding, improve your teaching, or hone your writing. Some of you will be staying close to campus, perhaps continuing research in your lab, teaching in Summer Sessions, or writing. Many of you may travel away from Berkeley, visiting family or friends, vacationing, interning, or conducting research in the field or archives. I am always intrigued by the fascinating adventures of our graduate students. To encourage the sharing of stories, the Graduate Division is again inviting you to describe what you are doing and learning off campus this summer. Up to ten stories will be considered for future publication in this monthly e-newsletter; the authors of the most engaging essays will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. Whatever you do, stay safe and well — and enjoy! With warm regards, Fiona M. Doyle Dean of the Graduate Division Donald H. McLaughlin Professor of Mineral Engineering
