UC Berkeley graduate students Ashley Smiley and Andrew Saintsing are bringing graduate-level research to the public through their Q&A format radio show on KALX, 90.7 FM. Smiley and Saintsing, both doctoral students in the Department of Integrative Biology, interview a rotating cast of graduate students from departments across UC Berkeley with an emphasis on communicating about groundbreaking research within the scientific disciplines. “There is a lot happening at the university and we want to air shows that engage the community with the unique findings that graduate students are discovering,” Smiley shared. “The show serves as a way to potentially recruit people who may not be aware of the opportunities that lay in graduate school,” she said. The 30-minute show airs every other Tuesday at 9 a.m. on KALX. Tune in July 16 to hear the next episode, or listen to podcasts of past episodes from Smiley, Saintsing, and former host Tesla Monson. If you’d like to feature your research on “The Graduates,” contact Smiley or Saintsing directly.
