Arthur H. Rosenfeld — Berkeley professor, former California Energy Commissioner, and physicist — pioneered energy conservation, technologies, and efficiency standards that make California an international leader in energy sustainability. In the words of Professor Ashok Gadgil, Rosenfeld was “the grand-dad of energy efficiency.”

UC Berkeley graduate students are now benefitting from the Art Rosenfeld Award for Energy Efficiency, which supports research, policy advocacy, and the implementation of energy efficiencies. The Rosenfeld Award is funded by an endowment managed by the Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute (BECI) and the UC Berkeley Graduate Assembly (GA) to support graduate students pursuing academic studies and career paths in local and global sustainability.
