The Peter Lyman Graduate Fellowship established in the memory of an esteemed UC Berkeley faculty member, provides a summer stipend to a UC Berkeley Ph.D. candidate to support the writing of his or her Ph.D. dissertation on a topic related to New Media. Some preference will be given to those doing research related to children and youth, and to BCNM Designated Emphasis students, but originality and quality of research are the primary criteria. The amount of the stipend depends on the size of the fund. In Summer 2018 the fellowship amount was $6,000. Any UC Berkeley Ph.D. candidate who has passed the Qualifying Exam and is in good standing can apply. Required information includes: full contact details, list of student’s Ph.D. Committee (noting Research Advisor), additional sources of funding, a one-page research summary, and an explanation of how the money will be used. To apply for the Lyman Fellowship, please complete this form by February 1, 2019. Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee from the Berkeley Center for New Media. The Peter Lyman Fellow will be announced in early March.
