Applications are being accepted through June 2, 2012, for the 2012 Battelle/NOGLSTP Out To Innovate Scholarships. The scholarships, funded at a minimum of $5,000 each, will be awarded for the fall, 2012 academic year. Students currently enrolled at any U.S.-based college or university are eligible to apply. The program is young; this is its second year of awards. Online scholarship applications are available through the NOGLSTP website. Applications must be submitted with supporting documentation no later than June 2, 2012. Scholarship recipients will be notified on August 1. The Scholarships were established following NOGLSTP’s inaugural Out to Innovate Career Summit, with lead funding support from Battelle. The scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) programs who are either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) or an active ally of the LGBT community. These scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of talented LGBT students in STEM careers. Battelle is the world’s largest independent research and development organization and NOGLSTP — the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals — is a nonprofit group founded in 1980 whose mission is to educate the scientific and general communities about the presence and accomplishments of LGBT individuals in STEM professions.
