This is my last message as Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate Division to you. I head off to retirement at the end of the month, and pass the baton to Lisa García Bedolla, who will be a wonderful advocate for graduate education.
It has been a tremendous privilege to lead the Graduate Division during the last few years. I have learned so much about the breadth and excellence of Berkeley’s different graduate programs.
More importantly, I have learned so much from you, our brilliant graduate students. You bring such an incredible range of life experiences and perspectives that I now understand why Berkeley’s graduate programs enjoy such a stellar reputation.
I look forward to seeing the research that you will do over your lifetimes, and the impact that you will have on your chosen professions. I sign off with best wishes to each of you, and deepest thanks for the opportunity to serve you..
Fiat Lux,
