Come to the next Teaching Conference for First-Time GSIs to find out! The Teaching Conference is held at the beginning of each semester to orient graduate students to their GSI role and equip them to begin teaching. There will be workshops with experienced GSIs to guide how to lead your first day, practical strategies, and more. The event is split into groups with different times and locations. For international students there is an additional day for the conference that will occur on Thursday and both domestic and international GSI's meet together on Friday. International GSI's must attend both days.

9:00 AM - 10:30 PM Creating Inclusive Classrooms August 31, 2022 @ 9:00 AM - 10:30 PM Creating Inclusive Classrooms This workshop is designed to help GSIs understand the character and consequences of microaggressions, and to help them begin to develop the tools to address them in their role as instructors. For those who attended any one of the similarly-themed workshops during the Fall or Spring conference for first-time GSIs, this will be an opportunity to revisit some of the topics discussed there, as well as to address any issues that may have emerged in the course of teaching since. For other GSIs, this workshop will provide a basic understanding of microaggressions and an opportunity to reflect on them in the context of their own teaching. Register for this workshop.

This could include status-related stressors, personal relationships, financial stress, faculty/staff relationships, and the role of White Supremacy culture within academia, among others. Grounding and self-care practices will be offered at the start of every circle by Dr. Peña, and space will be held for peer sharing and support.
