Phi Beta Kappa (Alpha of California Chapter) Doctoral Fellowships Each year the Phi Beta Kappa Alpha of California Chapter awards a number of fellowships to members of Phi Beta Kappa who are currently enrolled as doctoral students at UC Berkeley. The application for the 2013-2014 academic year will be posted on the organization’s website in mid-October.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Grant Opportunity Abroad — 9/06/2013 The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistantships. To compete, candidates must submit a Statement of Grant Purpose, defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the United States.
Life after dissertation: What’s next for degree recipients? Anna Spurlock, a graduate student in Agricultural and Resource Economics, completed her dissertation this spring. Now she plans to spend her time at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory researching energy efficiency related topics.
WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology and Distinguished Master’s Thesis Awards – 9/1/13 The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) will present three 2013-2014 awards: " Innovation in Technology," "Distinguished Master's Thesis" and "Distinguished Master's Thesis Award for the Biological Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering."

PhD student receives two grants for a campus restoration project Dylan Chapple's project, “Fitting Plant to Space,” will measure soil characteristics and landscape factors at each site along the campus’s Strawberry Creek before planting new vegetation. The project will engage 500 volunteers.
J-School student wins WHCA Scholarship and meets President Obama Angela Hart, a student in the Graduate School of Journalism, was a recipient of the 2013 White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) Student Scholarship. In April, Hart attended the WHCA awards dinner in Washington D.C. and a luncheon with President Obama.
