In this position the assistant will facilitate weekly community activities that promote social engagement for UC Berkeley students who identify on the autism spectrum. The ideal candidate is a graduate student participating in a relevant field of study with experience working with people who identify on the autism spectrum. The candidate should be available for the full duration of the 2019-20 academic year. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Meet with students to develop skills in the following areas: transition skills, social competence, self-advocacy, time management, organization, goal setting and study strategies Plan and implement regular community activities for students to provide opportunities for social engagement Schedule and attend a weekly dinner with students to establish a sense of community and build upon social skill sets Offer supportive resources to students and make referrals when deemed necessary Keep accurate and confidential records Research and create materials to market the program Meet with supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss program development and student updates We are seeking an individual who can commit between 12-15 hours per week.
