The Graduate Division and Graduate Assembly are proud to announce the launch of GradBook — an events calendar and resources app hosted on the Guidebook platform. GradBook is your single-stop source of information to get better connected to events, content, and resources available to graduate and professional students on campus. The idea was spearheaded in Spring 2017 by Graduate Assembly officers who were exploring ways to get graduate and professional students more engaged with campus events and resources. One of the issues identified was that it is very difficult for graduate students to know about things that were of interest and available to them as graduate students. In the 2014 Graduate Student Happiness and Well-Being Report, one student noted, “I feel like there isn’t enough here to really highlight opportunities to stay involved on campus — most things seem relevant for undergrads only.” Graduate Division and the GA decided to collaborate on a “guide” within the existing Berkeley Events App that eventually evolved into the GradBook. “We wanted a solution with a calendar that could filter events, provided easily-accessible information, and was simple to navigate. Guidebook is an existing platform that many schools and conferences use, and Berkeley already has an existing branded app used by New Student Services and Alumni Programs. It seemed like a natural fit,” explained Larissa Charnsangavej, Graduate Student Life Coordinator. GradBook was soft-launched in Fall 2017, in conjunction with New Graduate Student Orientation. “By hosting all the orientation materials and sessions on the app, we were able to make the Orientation paperless for the first time,” noted Charnsangavej. “We’ve been working with the GA and other campus units to continue to add to the app and are excited to market it to the broader graduate and professional student community.” GradBook is available for download via smartphone and accessible on the web.
