In response to the shocking news of the mass shooting that occurred in Orlando, FL targeting the LGBTQA+ community, I wish everyone an empowering and safe Pride Month as we mourn the events and innocent lives lost in the attack. I encourage everyone to be safe and vigilant if you are attending any events at SF Pride next weekend and to report any concerns to authorities immediately. This tragedy comes on the heels of the senseless murder of Professor William “Bill” S. Klug, a respected, dedicated and caring faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA. I echo Chancellor Dirks’ sentiments in standing in solidarity with the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters of our sister campus and the rest of our UC community. These tragedies strike at many of the core principles of our tolerant, respectful academic community. As details unfold, it is normal to have a wide range of thoughts, feelings and reactions even if you have not directly experienced or been affected by the crisis. I encourage you to take advantage of the campus resources available, and familiarize yourself with training and protocols for campus emergencies. See some resources for students and staff below. Sincerely, Fiona M. Doyle Dean of the Graduate Division Donald H.
