About Lavender Graduation

The Gender Equity Resource Center and our partners are excited to invite you to the 18th annual Lavender Graduation Celebration! Lavender Graduation is the UCB end-of year-celebration honoring UC Berkeley’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex and queer graduating seniors, graduate students, and allies. Everyone is invited to attend.

Complete the registration form by Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 12 noon, to let us know you are attending.  It is crucial for us to get an accurate count for the Rainbow Tassels. Your name will not appear on the program if you miss the May 1st registration deadline.

Please, no caps and gowns: save those for University-wide and department graduation ceremonies.

Seeking graduating student speakers

UC Berkeley graduate students (master’s, doctorate, professional degree) are invited to apply for one of the student speaker slots at this year’s LGBTQ+ graduation celebration. Graduate and undergraduate students who will be on the degree list for spring, summer, or fall 2018 or who graduated in December 2017 are eligible.

Up to three speakers will be chosen, with at least one being a graduate student . The selection of students will be based on their service within the campus or off-campus LGBTQ+ communities, and those who have a cogent, engaging, and inspirational story or message for their fellow graduates. Lavender Graduation values a diversity of speakers and Cal LGBTQ+ experiences; students from all parts of campus are encouraged to apply. Please limit your remarks to less than 5-8 minutes.

In addition to the Rainbow Tassel that all graduates receive, each speaker will receive a Cal Rainbow Graduation Stole.

Apply to be a student speaker by Thursday, April 19, 2018, 11:59 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Billy Curtis or call (510) 643-0788.
