A good sentence can stop you in your tracks, help a hard idea stick, and leave you wanting to keep reading. In this interactive workshop, we’ll write sentences together and notice how small choices—a stronger verb, a word cut, a clause flipped—can make academic prose all the more lucid and incisive. Working closely with a few examples, we’ll look at the key devices of sentence composition and how to use them to give your written work real rhetorical force. This workshop is a chance to become a stronger sentence-to-sentence writer and reflect on your own writing style.
