Event Information

Most writing advice assumes you already know what you want to say. This interactive workshop is for the more common situation: the blank page, the reading you’re still digesting, the project in its early stages. You’ll work with two prewriting techniques and learn when each one is useful. First, you’ll try free-writing, for when you’re stuck and don’t yet know what you think. Then you’ll try mapping, for when you have material but can’t see how all the pieces connect. Along the way, you’ll compare notes with a peer and see how their process differs from yours. Leave this workshop with two portable strategies to start writing, which you can use on a seminar paper, a dissertation chapter, a fellowship application, or anything you’re still figuring out.
