Overview

If you are passionate about the growing field of health communication, UC Berkeley offers a unique concurrent Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Journalism (MJ).

Offered jointly by UC Berkeley Journalism and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, this accelerated path allows you to earn two two-year degrees in just three years—saving a full year of study and tuition.

The program trains public health professionals to become impactful communicators while equipping journalists with the scientific foundation needed to cover health, medicine, and public policy with clarity and nuance. As a student, you will sharpen your investigative reporting and multimedia skills while specializing in one of three public health concentrations: Environmental Health Sciences (EHS), Epidemiology/Biostatistics (Epi/Bio), or Health and Social Behavior (HSB).

To apply, complete a single UC Berkeley Graduate Admissions Application and select the MPH/MJ concurrent degree option alongside your chosen Public Health concentration for joint review by both programs.
