If you are passionate about the growing field of health communication, UC Berkeley offers a unique collaborative path: a concurrent Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Journalism (MJ).
By combining the resources of UC Berkeley Journalism and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, this accelerated program allows you to complete two rigorous two-year degrees in just three years—saving you a full year of study.
Our mission is to train public health professionals to become impactful communicators, and to equip journalists with the deep scientific foundation needed to cover medical and health issues with clarity and nuance. As a student here, you will specialize in one of three public health concentrations while masterfully sharpening your investigative reporting and multimedia skills:
Environmental Health Sciences (EHS)
Epidemiology / Biostatistics (Epi/Bio)
Health and Social Behavior (HSB)

Concurrent Degree Application: Be sure to choose the MPH/MJ concurrent degree application for the public health concentration of interest to you (i.e. Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, or Health and Social Behavior) so our teams at both schools can review your application.
