Berkeley attracts many recipients of Fulbright Scholarships to pursue graduate studies here. Cristobal Madero, now a doctoral student in educational policies and organizations at the Graduate School of Education, is one. After ten years of teaching high school in his native country of Chile, he came to Berkeley to further his research on how teachers develop a passion for their profession and view teaching as a calling. For Cristobal, his faith is interconnected with his studies in sociology and education, as his teaching philosophy is informed by his Catholic Jesuit background. After his time at Berkeley, he hopes to bring what he has learned back to Chile and continue teaching.
