Applications are now being accepted for the Markowski-Leach Scholarship for the 2018–19 academic year. Eligible applicants will self-identify as LGBTQ and will be incoming freshmen, undergraduates, or graduate students at the following schools and registered as full-time students during the award period.

  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of California, San Francisco
  • University of California Hastings College of Law

The annual award is $2,000, which is divided by number of terms in the recipient’s regular school year (2 or 3) and awarded at the beginning each term through the school’s Financial Aid Office.  The award can be renewed for a second year of eligibility before re-application is required.

The purpose of the award is to support the education of LGBTQ students who are deemed likely to “make a substantial contribution to society, thereby enhancing society’s perception of gay and lesbian people as well as increasing the gay and lesbian community’s self-esteem…” Selected candidates will demonstrate their dedication to excellence in their lives through service, education, or employment. Scholarships are awarded to applicants whose leadership potential is evident regardless of their chosen field of study or financial need.
