New funding programs have been launched as part of France’s “Make Our Planet Great Again” initiative.  Announced by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, in June 2017, this initiative has met with worldwide enthusiasm and has generated expressions of interest from a large number of outstanding students and researchers.

Within this framework, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation have launched calls for four proposals:

  • A call for applications for grants to pursue a Master’s degree in France (1 or 2 years)
  • A call for applications for co-financing of PhD programs in France (3 years) [Note: UC Berkeley does not participate in co-tutelle PhD programs]
  • A call for applications for co-financing of postdoctoral research contracts (1 to 2 years)
  • A call for proposals for funding of short research stays for international researchers and PhD students (14 days to 5 months)

Calls for applications for grants at the Master’s degree level, for postdoctoral research contracts, and for short research stays are now open and will close on April 6, 2018. Students will be able to apply for PhD offers from April 5 to 20. Three research topics will be prioritized: earth system sciences, climate change and sustainability sciences, energy transition.
