The Mentored Research Award gives academically promising graduate students an opportunity to conduct pre-doctoral research while developing and strengthening relationships with faculty advisers. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose backgrounds, life experiences, and/or work contribute to diversity. UC Berkeley is committed to recognizing and rewarding graduate student’s contributions to diversifying the academy during their graduate careers and beyond. The purpose of this fellowship award is to assist diverse doctoral students in acquiring sophisticated research skills by working under faculty mentorship on their own pre-dissertation research. Fellows will receive a $16,000 stipend plus payment of in-state fees. The deadline for all materials to be submitted is Monday, March 5, 2018. Award notifications will be made in April. Eligibility Must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, or be AB540-eligible. Must show adequate academic progress towards their degree, as certified by their adviser. Must be enrolled in an academic doctoral degree program. The Graduate Division requests nominations from departments by March 5, 2018.
