Fiona M. Doyle, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate DivisionA huge welcome to our new graduate students!

Whether you are here to pursue a Ph.D., one of our many master’s or other professional degrees, studying full-time or part-time, on campus or on-line, we are thrilled that you are joining Berkeley’s graduate community. I look forward to meeting many of you on Tuesday, August 21, at our New Graduate Student Orientationwhere you can attend numerous panels and workshops throughout the day. (If you haven’t already, please RSVP.) Be sure to stay for GradFest, to learn more about our student organizations and community. Here are some other orientations and receptions held throughout August not to be overlooked.

To those of you who are continuing your graduate work, I wish you a productive year, whether you are studying, conducting research, teaching, or engaging in some combination of these. I’d encourage you to look at some of the articles below for new students — you may learn about new resources and new things to do that you weren’t aware of last year, or the year before!

And I’d urge all students who are studying on campus to look at our student life materials. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance while in graduate school is of the utmost importance — not just for your well-being and happiness, but also for your academic work. Let’s all make a resolution this year to get enough sleep!

With best wishes,
