Fiona M. DoyleMay is a busy month, filled with finishing obligations and planning for transitions — whether you will be staying on campus during the summer, returning in the fall, or going on to new endeavors.

Congratulations to those of you who are completing your studies. Remember when you first set your sights on earning a master’s or doctoral degree at Berkeley? Having achieved this milestone, you can be rightly proud of your accomplishments!

I hope that you will find that Berkeley has prepared you well for the next stage of your professional career and that your experiences here have honed habits and instilled values that will serve you, and those around you, in good stead. I urge you to keep in touch with your faculty and colleagues and inform us of your future achievements.

For those of you continuing your studies, it’s a good time to reflect on progress made toward your goals over the past academic year. Looking ahead, what can you do to better balance your studies, teaching or research, and your personal life so as to enhance your well-being while stretching yourself academically? What more can you explore or cultivate so that you profit most from this special period of your life? You might discover that more resources are close at hand than you’ve yet reached out for.

To each and all, I wish you satisfying journeys ahead. Best wishes for a productive and rejuvenating summer, wherever you are!

Fiat Lux!
