Fiona M. DoyleRecent weeks have been whirlwinds of graduate students showing and sharing their research, advocacy, and teaching prowess — and gaining well-deserved recognition both for their own professional and academic development, and for their contributions to the mission of the University and to the common good.

From the very well-received Graduate Research Advocacy Day in Sacramento to the exciting UC-wide Grad Slam competition in San Francisco, to the happy occasions of the Distinguished GSI Awards and Teaching Effectiveness Awards ceremonies on campus, Berkeley students have demonstrated an inspiring range of brilliance, talent, and achievement in all their endeavors. Each month’s GradNews highlights many of these moments, and we hope that you enjoy reading about yourselves and your peers.

The culminating achievement this month for many of you is, of course, graduating with your degree in hand. To all of you who are completing your studies, I offer my hearty congratulations and warm wishes for every success in your chosen paths. Please remember the faculty and staff here who look forward to hearing from you as your future unfolds.

For those of you who will be continuing your studies this summer — or taking some time off to refresh — please prepare in advance for any travels abroad — and take good advantage, as you can, of the natural and cultural riches in the Bay Area and across the U.S.

I wish everyone a wonderful, productive and rejuvenating summer!

With warm regards,
