The Fall 2015 SHIP waiver period for continuing students is April 15th – September 15th, 2015. Your waiver must be received by July 15th, 2015 to avoid a late waiver fee of $50. All waivers submitted between July 16th and September 15th are subject to the late fee. No waivers can be accepted after September 15th, 2015. (Note: the deadline for new graduate students is August 31, 2015). See next year’s SHIP plan here. In April, student parents were notified that University Health Services would no longer be offering voluntary plans, including dependent plans, for the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) in 2015-16. In most cases, while families can continue to sign up for new plans for up to 60 days from the time that their former coverage has ended, Covered California plans become active only at the start of each month. Enrolling in Covered California after this date (until August 15) means the member’s plan would start September 1, 2015. UHS offers new resources to help ease the transition Free Student Insurance Helpline — Free service helps families explore their options on the federal and state exchanges, as well as private insurance options. New Transition Assistance Fund — One-time funding to students with currently enrolled dependents who qualify to help transition to non-SHIP plans. New Onsite individualized help through the SHIP office — Individualized administrative assistance and resources right on campus, in addition to the free Helpline service provided by the UHS insurance broker. Learn more about the decision to end the voluntary plans in a Daily Cal Op-Ed and in the new FAQ. See the dependent transition web page for full details.
