The second annual Beyond Academia conference will take place February 20 and 21, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, at the International House. This is a graduate student and postdoc-run career education conference that aims to introduce Ph.D. students and postdocs to career options outside of academia. Last year’s inaugural conference was a tremendous success, as reported here. During this year’s two-day conference, panelists will discuss the variety of career tracks offered to students. Participants will learn about non-academic career experiences and discover companies that value the rigorous training students receive in Ph.D. programs. At least 48 speakers have been confirmed, representing 12 major sectors of industry. Also represented will be organizations such as Yahoo, Google, McKinsey, Genentech, RAND, SRI, PLoS, Exponent, and Exploratorium. The event will be a unique opportunity for students to hear from and interact with successful and creative professionals in an informal setting.
