Graduate students who live at International House, or aspire to, are invited to speak to their academic department about being nominated for a Gateway Fellowship. Each Gateway Fellowship provides single-occupancy room and board at International House for an academic year, a $5,000 stipend from the Graduate Division and tuition and fees paid by the student’s academic department. You may nominate more than one candidate. Although a preference is for incoming first year PhD students, qualified candidates are not always available, so continuing students may be eligible. Direct your academic department to the Gateway Fellowships nomination form and review the list of Gateway Fellowships. Applicants are especially sought in these areas: returning Peace Corps volunteers and international students from Norway, Egypt, Saudi Arabia (of Gulf-Cooperative states), and Sub-Saharan Africa. I-House has other residential scholarship opportunities to assist with partial room and board fees for 2018–19. Rooms fill quickly, interested graduate students should plan to apply for I-House Residential Admissions by late spring. The room and board financial aid application will be available in late April. For questions, call 510-642-2196 or email: [email protected]. The priority deadline is March 15, 2019.
