See organizers’ website for details and application.

Workshop dates:

Friday, Oct 12, 2018 | 9:30 am
Friday, Oct 19, 2018 | 9:30 am

Lura Dolas (senior continuing lecturer emeritus and former head of the acting program, UC Berkeley) conducts two three-hour workshops designed to teach graduate students techniques to help them deliver job talks and professional presentations clearly, confidently, and persuasively. The workshops help in identifying ineffective behavior, neutralizing stage fright, selecting persuasive language, heightening interest with storytelling techniques, and using voice, eye contact, and gestures appropriately and effectively. The workshops provide a safe, constructive atmosphere to maximize individual participation.

In the first workshop, participants are introduced to a series of modified acting exercises designed to promote clear, confident, and persuasive presentation of self and material. In the second workshop, participants are given the opportunity to present a short sample of a job talk or professional presentation and receive individual coaching.

N.B.: Students must enroll for both workshops and commit to the entire six hours.

UC Berkeley PhD students who have advanced to candidacy and are entering the job market, broadly conceived. Admission to workshop is limited to 12 students. Priority will be given to students in the Arts and Humanities and related Social Sciences.
