In this 3-week course, Dr. Karen Kelsky will walk participants through the conditions of the current American job market, the most common mistakes made by job-seekers, and the ways to maximize your chances of success while looking for a tenure-track job.
Part One will cover the big-picture conditions of the U.S. tenure track job market, how to think like a search committee, why you need a five year plan of productivity, and the four core qualities of a successful tenure track job candidate. Part Two will focus on job applications, with a focus on how to write the cover letter and CV. Part Three will focus on interviews, covering the major types of questions you can expect in an academic interview, how to prepare answers, and how to overcome the most common pitfalls, like rambling and hyper-emotionalism.
