Office for Graduate Diversity and Berkeley Graduate Division

The Office for Graduate Diversity and Berkeley Graduate Division are pleased to announce stipends for undocumented AB 540 or AB540 eligible graduate students. This financial award is intended to fill a critical gap in graduate and professional student support. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis.

Priority for funding will be given based on need and to those who are not eligible for other sources of support.

Award Amount

Eligible graduate students, including professional school students, are invited to apply for the Birgeneau Perelman Fund for Undocumented Students before December 12. If funding permits, awards of up to $9,000 per year will be made to eligible applicants. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis.

Applicant Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  1. Be an enrolled, undocumented UC Berkeley graduate student in good academic standing. Must be AB540 or AB540 eligible.
  2. Demonstrate financial need.

  • Demonstration of financial need
  • Academic achievements and promise

Application packages should include the following:

  • A completed application form
  • Note: A letter of recommendation from a faculty member may be provided, but is completely optional.

Deadline for Submission

Applications must be received by the Office for Graduate Diversity no later than Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 5 p.m. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis.
