Looking for something to fill the time this weekend or over the winter break? Whether you’re a recent transplant and want to explore the Bay Area, or a local interested in breaking out of your routine, these are some of our favorite calendars, blogs, and apps to help you get to know your community.

Funcheap SF — A great guide to free and affordable events in the Bay Area. The site is updated often and you can find something to do on any given day of the week. They also have sub-guides specific to the East Bay.

Time Out San Francisco — The Time Out Group publishes magazines and travel guidebooks covering events, entertainment, food and culture in over 100 cities around the world. Check out their “Things to Do This Weekend” list (updated weekly) or any of their “Best Of” lists for films, food, attractions, art, culture, and nightlife activities.

Berkeleyside — For more events local to Berkeley, you can visit Berkeleyside’s events calendar. Berkeleyside is an independently owned local news site, reporting on Berkeley and the East Bay.

Meetup — Meetup is an online social networking service for people to organize and/or join offline group meetings in person. Join a “Meetup Group” based on your activities and interests, and then attend events organized by individuals in the group. Want to do something specific? You can also start your own group or organize your own event!

Last but not least, don’t forget to check out the Campus Calendar for events, performances and lectures happening right here at UC Berkeley!
