The UC San Francisco — IRACDUCSF logoA program is currently accepting applications to fund up to three postdoctoral scholars through the UCSF IRACDA (Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award) Program, sponsored by a K12 NIH (NIGMS) award.

The mission of this program is aimed at building a diverse group of highly trained biomedical research scientists. Postdoctoral scholars will be supported to carry out impactful and innovative biomedical research with an appropriate research mentor for up to three years.

The UCSF IRACDA Scholars Program is structured to provide up to three years of salary support in accordance with current NIH guidelines. It is expected that all scholars will work to secure independent funding (NIH-NRSA, Private Fellowships, or NIH-K awards) at the end of their three-year IRACDA period in order to establish a vibrant, independent research program.

Scholars will be expected to participate in research-based mentoring of undergraduate students (during the summer) from our partner school San Francisco State University (SFSU) and will also obtain a finite teaching experience with one of SFSU’s master teachers. SFSU has a demonstrated commitment to provide training and assistance to students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical workforce. Ongoing monthly workshops organized by the UCSF IRACDA Program will help facilitate critical skills including mentoring, grant writing, and professional development.
