Smithsonian FellowTo encourage access to its collections, staff specialties, and reference resources, the Institution offers in-residence appointments for research and study using its facilities and the advice and guidance of its staff members in fields relevant to the Smithsonian Institution.

Such fields include: Animal behavior, ecology, and environmental science, with emphasis on the tropics; anthropologyand archaeology; Aatrophysics and astronomy; earth sciences and paleobiology; evolutionary and systematic biology; history of science and technology; history of art, American crafts, and decorative arts; social and cultural history of the United States; and folklife.

Proposals should address one or more of the Institution’s four grand challenges: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Universe; Understanding and Sustaining a Biodiverse Planet; Valuing World Cultures; Understanding the American Experience. Four types of fellowship are offered: postdoctoral, senior, predoctoral, and graduate student.
