The Visiting Scholar and Postdoc Affairs (VSPA) Program Office is pleased to inform you that the call for applications to the Privileged Partnership Fellowship Program with the Free University of Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles or ULB) is now open! The ULB and UC Berkeley partnership exchange program is open to all current UC Berkeley graduate students who wish to pursue research at ULB as part of their graduate program.

The fellowship will provide two 5,000 Euro stipends to two outstanding UC Berkeley graduate students who can demonstrate how this program would benefit their academic studies and research project.

Areas of interest for students include, but are not limited to: astronomy, chemical engineering, chemistry, engineering, education, energy and resources, environmental science and policy management, humanities and social sciences, life sciences, law, math, optometry, physics, psychology, public health, and statistics.

Additionally, Brussels is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities and the ULB is located in the heart of Europe, is just a train ride away from major European cities such as Paris, Rome, London.

Application should be addressed to the Director of VSPA, Yvette Lane-Newton, by April 20, 2020 for a stay during the summer or fall.

Applicants should seek out a faculty sponsor at Université Libre de Bruxelles to mentor their research experience. To find a faculty sponsor, visit the ULB website and check the department pages to identify a faculty member who would be interested in collaborating on your research project.

  • Curriculum vitae of the Ph.D. student applicant
  • Brief description of the research project
  • Letter of Support from the Ph.D. student’s UC Berkeley faculty advisor
  • An invitation letter from of the Université Libre de Bruxelles faculty sponsor (assistance with this can be provided)
  • Proposed beginning and ending dates of your research stay at ULB. Note: A minimum stay of at least two months is required
