Dear Graduate Students,

Rosemary A. Joyce
Rosemary A. Joyce

To new incoming graduate students, a few words: Greetings! Soon you’ll receive an email with important information about the New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO). I recommend you attend NGSO, as well as other orientations and receptions during Welcome Week. It will make your experience at Berkeley easier and more rewarding.

I also want to take this opportunity to inform new and continuing graduate students about some changes in the leadership of the Graduate Division. For the past three years, I have had the pleasure of serving as Associate Dean. Now, I am stepping in as Interim Dean of the Graduate Division this summer and fall, while the campus conducts a search for a successor to former Dean Andrew Szeri, who has taken on a different Vice Provost role.

Along with Associate Dean Susan Muller, Interim Associate Dean Jill Stoner, and our dedicated professional staff, I am confident that your needs and concerns will continue to benefit from our collective attention with an eye for continuous improvement of services and programs that are responsive to our diverse population of nearly 10,000 doctoral and master’s students in more than 104 programs.

With that in mind, I encourage you to check out the Graduate Division’s improved, revised website. We have redesigned its look and content so that current (and prospective) students can find relevant, up-to-date information faster and more completely. As this is a work-in-progress, we welcome your comments and feedback. We will continue to add new features throughout the year, and some of them could be in response to a suggestion from you.

I hope the rest of your summer goes well and look forward to welcoming everyone to the fall semester soon!

Warm regards,

Rosemary A. Joyce
