Dear Graduate Students,

The fall semester is almost here and, in my new role as the Interim Dean of the Graduate Division, I am as excited as any of you about the opportunities to learn and grow that Berkeley provides.

Those of you returning to your program at Berkeley will be delving back into your degree work while greeting your newest graduate student colleagues — another cohort of the most promising students anywhere. Enjoy getting to know one another!

For incoming students, I hope to see you at the New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) on Tuesday, August 26. This lively half-day event is packed with speakers and workshops tailored to help you learn about resources essential to getting oriented to campus. Find out what’s happening at the NGSO and RSVP today. Also visit the new student events page for details about all events for new graduate students.

I encourage all of you, new and continuing students, to bookmark the Graduate Division’s own website. Here you will find information, announcements, and news that can answer many of your questions throughout your career as a graduate student at Berkeley. We are continually improving our web pages with new features in response to feedback received from you and the faculty and staff in your program. Please feel welcome to provide us with your suggestions or comments.

All of us in the Graduate Division look forward to opportunities to help you thrive throughout the coming year. We are here to help!

Warm regards,

Rosemary A. Joyce
Interim Dean of the Graduate Division
Professor of Anthropology
