School of information students sitting in classroomBeginning in Fall 2019, UC Berkeley graduate students may apply to earn a Graduate Certificate in Applied Data Science from the UC Berkeley School of Information.

The certificate requires three 3-unit courses and is designed to complement a student’s regular degree program. Upon graduation, a student who completes the certificate will be issued a certificate in addition to a diploma, and completion of the certificate program will be noted on the official transcript.

The need for expertise in data analytics continues to grow in all organizations and disciplines. The Graduate Certificate in Applied Data Science introduces the tools, methods, and conceptual approaches used to support modern data analysis and decision-making in professional and applied research settings.

This Option 2 Certificate, which trains students to become intelligent analysts of data within the applied contexts of their individual domains, is particularly designed to meet the needs of graduate students in Berkeley’s professional schools, including both professional master’s students and doctoral students, as well as graduate students in the Social Sciences and the Arts and Humanities.

UC Berkeley graduate students can sign up to be notified when the application is open. Students may apply at any time during their UC Berkeley graduate career, either before or after taking courses that would count toward the certificate.
