To help reach the goal of raising $340 million in private support for graduate fellowships during The Campaign for Berkeley, the University has created an unprecedented incentive to inspire giving to this critical area—committing $2 million in matching funds annually for new fellowship endowments.
Gifts made during the Campaign will bolster Berkeley’s ability to increase the amount of funding available to graduate students in two ways. Each year a portion of the endowment payout (the amount distributed for current spending) will be matched dollar for dollar to create competitive financial packages and to ensure that Berkeley can continue to recruit top graduate students. The other portion of the endowment payout will be invested back into the endowment to increase its growth and to build a substantial—and stable—source of graduate fellowship funding in perpetuity.
Endowment giving opportunities:
- Graduate Fellowship ($500,000+)
- Out-of-state and International Student Award ($250,000+)
- Summer Research Award ($100,000+)
- Excellence Award ($50,000+)
These funds may be restricted by school/college, broad discipline, or department. Contact us for information about endowing a fellowship or a graduate student award under the payout matching program.
How the matching works:
Gifts of any amount to an established endowment such as those listed below will provide much needed fellowship funding in all programs and disciplines on campus.
