Workshops on Public Speaking for Graduate Students (Deadline to apply)

January 29 @ 5:00 pm

Lura Dolas (Head of Acting Program, UC Berkeley) conducts two three-hour workshops designed to teach graduate students techniques to help them deliver job talks and professional presentations clearly, confidently, and persuasively. The workshops help in identifying ineffective behavior, neutralizing stage fright, selecting persuasive language, heightening interest with storytelling techniques, and using voice, eye contact, and gestures appropriately and effectively. The workshops provide a safe, constructive atmosphere to maximize individual participation.

In the first workshop, participants are introduced to a series of modified acting exercises designed to promote clear, confident, and persuasive presentation of self and material. In the second workshop, participants are given the opportunity to present a short sample of a job talk or professional presentation and receive individual coaching.

N.B.: Students must enroll for both workshops and commit to the entire six hours:

Friday, Feb 9, 2018 | 9:30 am
